Cotton Forum 2016

The African Cotton Producer Association (AProCA) and Max Havelaar France co-organize in Paris the International African Fairtrade and Organic Fairtrade Cotton Forum to foster new opportunities for economic and institutional partnerships.

Meeting those at the start of the “white gold” story

This event is part of the ‘West African Fairtrade and Organic Fairtrade Cotton Development’ project financed by AFD (Agence Française de Développement). More than 100 participants are expected: cotton farmers, cotton companies, textile companies, funding organizations and representatives of West African and European institutions who will be able to engage in a dialogue about their respective issues and open new collaborative opportunities to promote Fairtrade and Organic Fairtrade cotton.

Objectives of the Forum

1) Share a common understanding of the challenges faced by small cotton producers in Africa. The results of a study on power imbalances encountered by small-scale cotton producers  in the C4 countries (Mali, Burkina Faso, Benin, Chad) and Senegal will be presented.

2) Create opportunities for buyers and small-scale cotton producers from various countries to meet.

3) Engage West African countries, G7 countries and the European Union in a discussion on how governments can help support small cotton farmers overcome the trade barriers they face.

4) Understand the reality of small-scale cotton producers.
